Pensacola F4U-1 Restoration Update (Link w/ Recent Photos)

I had been searching around in vain for any updates on this restoration and finally came across this site with some recent photos. Have not seen this one mentioned on here in a while, so I figured I'd pass along the link. She's still a ways off but looking good to my eyes! How much of the engine survived to be used for the restoration? I understand magnesium castings didn't last long in salt water but being a Lake I imagine it wasn't in too bad a state?

I visited the Corsair last month. The engine is complete and looks magnificent.
Dunno how much was original to the bird or what all was replaced, but it looks
great.....Owen

I sure hope they don’t leave the main wheel wells in salmon because that area was top coated in light non-specular gray. The exception was the tail wheel well, at least on the Pensacola Birdcage, was left in salmon.

The inside ring of the engine cowl should be light non-specular gray as well.

I suspect the restoration department is going to use a little artistic variations on what they actually found on this Corsair. Which is dissapointing.

Sadly now a static in Brazil...but look at what a golden age of warbird revival we're in. There are wealthy individuals willing to spend their money on reviving aircraft with FAR SUPERIOR VERSIONS! The birdcage was far from the best and/or easiest to fly Corsair. I for one look forward to seeing one in the air and at Pensacola. Cheers to all.

Not a true birdcage which I imagine is why it may have been left off of the list. Sure was gorgeous when operated in New Zealand though! Can't say I care much for the current finish.
