This sounds like marvelous news. 100 million Pounds in the budget!

I only hope he doesn't make it 3 + hours long like all his other movies. I think you can tell this story well in under 2.

Guy Gibson's dog, a black labrador, was named "Nigger". While this was probably meant as a somewhat lighthearted joke in 1940s England it would only cause problems and controversy today. Just like the classic movie "Holiday Inn", you probably won't see anyone remake that movie and dress in "black face", as Bing Crosby did.

I imagine that they will probably just change the name of the dog to "Lucky", or some such, and forget about it. Realism must often balance with entertainment in the cinema, and this is one of those times.

I think this is an exciting project and hope that it does move forward. Just like what Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg did with "Saving Pvt. Ryan" and "Band of Brothers" having Peter Jackson bring WW2 aviation to the big screen can only be a good thing. Now, if he would only remake "Battle of Britain" we would really have something.

Gibson had a black labrador dog, which was run over on the eve of the mission. That dog was called N!!!er, which would now be construed as a very racist comment !

Incedently, that reminds me of the so called 'ghost of N!!!er'. In tha last scene of the 50's film when Gibson is talking to Barnes Wallis at Scampton. A black dog can be seen running around in the background, which apparently was'nt there during filming. Of course I had to check it out for myself and yes, there it is. But is it a ghostly dog ? who knows

Two airworthy Lancasters in the world, and while there are others that theoretically be made airworthy, not in any realistic timeframe / budget, even a film one. IF it does get made, by someone else, it won't be with real Lancs. But then, lots of them in the original film weren't Lancs either...

The picture is of the visit I made, the whole airfield is still as it was in WWII except for the new control tower and extended runway I think.
