One thing I've been pondering for the last several years, is a series of World War 2 movies much like the style of STAR WARS and INDIANA JONES.
They wouldn't have to be absolutely correct in every way, just like the old movie theater serials, but they would have to be adventurous.
There were a few series of children's books during the war, and one of those series (one that I collect) is called the adventures of DAVE DAWSON.
Using these storielines as a guide and adding things here and there, but keeping the main characters from the books, there could be some interesting movies available.

I would like to see that, but then... many already know the name even if the last movie wasn't even close to the way it happend. It might be nice to get some stories on the screen of other crews just so people don't start to think MB was the ONLY crew.

Enough is enough with the "Memphis Belle", already. The original movie was a propaganda piece and the second one was an embarrassment.

I'd like to see JG-54, Thin Red Line style. A little arty farty romantic stuff mixed in with brutal combat, bad/selfish decision making, and sorrow. The movie will end sadly. Start with one or two of the pilots in Spain, follow it through to the formation of the unit, Poland, Russia, to the defense of the reich, The Courland pocket, and surrender.
The highest highs, the lowest lows. I think it would be a good story. It pretty much spans the entire war in europe. The story is so big, the numbers are so big, the hair raising scrapes are so numerous, that fantastic stories can be cherry picked with little effort without the need for very much "Dramatic License".
Starts in sunny Spain. Ends in a Russian prison camp in the 1950's. Or we could have the alternate "American Ending". I say "American Ending" because all American movies have to end upbeat in some way or another. This idea comes from a picture I saw of one of the extremely few Stalingrad veterans who had been released from Russian prison camp standing on a sidwalk in Berlin in the late 40's or early 50's. He was ragged and bare footed and the people standing around him were staring at him.
JG-54 is my favorite squadron. There, I said it.
And before anyone gets any idea's, NO, I'm not a stormfronter or a nazi. I feel I have to say something about that aspect because, well, because I live in California, and because most of my best friends are ex or active duty US military, and because, the BOB, AVG, VMF-214, Mighty Eighth, 357th, ect, guys will always feed me sh1t about it. In California, the mention of military service, or the fact that you may have ever fired a weapon, grants you lower than baby rapist status (at least a baby rapist can be cured in prison, you've been brainwashed), and all of the wierd looks, thoughts and suspicion that entails. (OK, end of OT rant)
Those guys fought 6 years straight. I'd be hard pressed to find an allied aviation unit that did that day to day, or any allied unit for that matter (I'm sure one of my WIX bro's will set me straight on that one). Almost all of them were under the age of 30. Almost all of them died. I'm sure there was a couple three hardcores in there, but when you're at it that long, it only comes down to your buds and thats the only reason left for doing what you do.
I joined at 17. I did 9 years. 8 in the cold war during the Walker, 180 degree baffle clear, broke dick smashed boat years. The other year was spent waiting to go to Iraq the first time around (thank jeebus the Army broke me). I'm not saying that I know what any of those cats on any side went through. I'm just saying I know one of the reasons why they kept on doing it.
That, in my mind, told that way, makes a great story.
(ehhhh, long winded enough for ya?)

The Ploesti Oil Raid Missions has got to be considered for a new movie. Here's an interesting fact about the raid.
The Medal of Honor presented to Col. John Riley "Killer" Kane (1907-1996) is one of five presented for the mission, the most ever awarded for a single action. Three of the awards were posthumous: 2nd Lt. Lloyd H. Hughes (-), a native of Alexandria, Louisiana; Lt. Col. Addison Baker (-); and Maj. John L. Jerstad (-). The other Medal of Honor presented to a living recipient for that day's battle was to Col. Leon W. Johnson (1904-1997).

I realize I am getting in on this waaay late but I just thought of a book that would make a terrific film.
War in A Stringbag by Charles Lamb. A Swordfish pilot with the Fleet Air Arm that survive the sinking of the HMS Couraegous, attacking E-boats at Dunkirk as well as numerous sorties in the Med and Malta.
Has a film ever been made about FAA pilots?

I've always like Midway and The Final Countdown. Memphis Belle was good too.
I'd like to see a remake of Tora, Tora, Tora. I want to see more story line of ALL the U.S. Pursuit pilots, USAAC bomber pilots and Marine and Navy aircraft that got airborn.
How about "Battleground" or my favorite Kelly's heroes!! Hey, Oddball..........ummm I mean Donald Southerland.

an old post!!! an oldie but a goodie!!!! after extensive reading on the aluetian island theater, i think a good FRESH..... REPEAT FRESH aviation related story could come from their. the harsh elements, freezing h20, hazardous flying / survival atmosphere etc, combat, etc. alot of not talked about bravery exists their!!!! a forgotten war front in the movies.

I'm surprised that with all the remakes comming out of Hollywood, that there hasn't been a "new" Baa Baa Blacksheep movie.
