This is the place where the majority of the warbird (aircraft that have survived military service) discussions will take place. Specialized forums may be added in the new future

The hangar I am referring to (and things have changed since the early 90s) is the one at the rear of this photo.
Can you recall when it was erected? I know it was there when I first set foot at Chino in 1990. And as there are photos of the P-51D on the inside, it was up by 1987.

The gray hangar is/was the Edison hangar. I believe that hangar is Vietnam era. The old rumor anyhow was that Napalm bombs were built there once, but who knows?
Edison has since built another hangar for their helicopter operations.
The tan colored one to the south was erected by Yanks, probably built within the last 15 or 20 years.
As I mentioned, the original location for the Nichols collection was to the east of Aero Trader adjacent to the taxiway. I think Matt Nightingale may be in there now.

I remember in the late 70s there was a sports show one Saturday Afternoon (American Sportsman?) that had a segment where professional rodeo rider and private pilot Larry Mahan went to Birchinal's place and got checked out (or at least stick time) in a Stearman, T-6, B-17, and P-51. I recorded the audio from the segment on the cassette tape recorder I recently gotten for Christmas, but unfortunately it was in the pre-VCR days. I keep hoping the segment with show up on Youtube someday.

Steve, I remember that... There was some air to air footage that had Mahan flying inverted in the Mustang!

Just out of curiosity... I have a solid understanding where most all of the warbirds once owned by Junior Burchinal are now/what became of them (the two Mustangs, two P-38's, Bearcat, Corsair, several B-25's, A-26's, PV-1's and 2's, B-17, etc.), but I was wondering if anyone knows what became of the Skyraider he owned/flew (which also shows up in Zane's photo) - it's the only one of his prop-driven warbirds I haven't been able to trace.

Isn't that the Mauler in the photo? The blue plane?

No, that is Junior's Skyraider - it was painted blue over white. He never had a Mauler (as far as I know). Where that Skyraider is today, or what became of it, is what I'd like to find out

when i worked for Tallman in late '69, he and Junior traded a J2F for F4U, but i can't remember for sure which went where
i think Tallman got the J2F for Murphy's War.

I'm assuming this Mustang did not fly with a three-blade prop.

Has there been any updates on the Guardian lately? Last I saw it was painted and an engine run....

At the Burchinal's Flying Tigers Airport fly-in a couple weekends back, it was said that the Guardian is about a month from being ready to fly.
