Lil Margaret Heavy Damage In UK 5/25/18

Surprised this wasn’t here or on the Wix Group yesterday. The Ex Butch Schroeder F6 was heavily damaged on the new Italian owner’s first take off yesterday. I have heard it is wrecked. Haven’t seen any pics yet.

Happened on Friday and posted about it in my stickied thread (didn't know if I should have made a new thread about it). I immediately felt a sense of anger and a sick feeling when I heard the news. It would be nice to see it go to Midwest Aero for repairs if it really needs major work (still don't know the exact extent of the damage).

Thanks for correction - it’s good to have a separate thread as I don’t always look in the sticky ones. Yeah your feelings are correct . Let’s put it this way , the key word is “ new” I’ll leave it at that.

:( That's the second time in a handful of years a Mustang near me was sold and was quickly crashed by the new owner.

It's best if discussion (rather than update notification) mainly happens outside the sticky 'Warbirds by Type' thread IMO. Easier to search for separate threads rather than trying to find in along thread.

Glad to know I'm not the only one who was immediately angered at this news. I feel somewhat bad that this was my immediate reaction, but that is a very special aircraft, and knowing that the buyer stuffed it on his very first flight suggests he did not approach this with the care it demanded.

Looks like it may not have been the actual owner flying it.

Here is the report from England....

"North American F-6D (the reconnaissance version of the P-51) 44-73822 (N51BS) was badly damaged at Woodchurch aerodrome (a former World War II airfield in Kent, UK) on 25 May 2018. The aircraft apparently failed to get airborne during its take-off run. The new owner, who was piloting N51BS at the time of the incident, came out OK.

The aircraft was painted in the markings of ‘Lil’ Margaret’, an original wartime F-6D flown by Clyde B. East, who scored 14.5 victories. It carried code ‘5M-K’. ‘Lil’ Margaret’ was eventually destined to move to its final destination in Italy.

At least the pilot, whether he was the owner or not, came out of it with only a bruised ego....

There was some confusion as Giovanni Marchi was flying it, but there have been posts saying his wife (Silvia Sorlini) is the owner. Awaiting clarification...

Lets be real here...and I mean no disrespect.... but does it really make any difference if he is the listed owner of the plane or his wife is the listed owner the plane? Seems like splitting hairs to me...

I can't believe there's no pictures of it yet.

Private airfield out in the boonies (relatively).

Somewhat, but we have reports saying the new owner was flying it... & a quote from the owner on her FB page saying she's happy the pilot is ok.

I was thinking the same thing Dan.

No doubt people are wondering all sorts of things.
As upsetting as it is, for such a beautiful piece of history, that we all seem to have a vested interest in, to come to grief. We were not there.

I am sure that the pilot, fortunately not badly hurt, feels worse than any of us.
Our very dear WIX friend Vlado was basically unequalled in expertise of the Mustang.
Tragically he was lost in one. We just don't know.

Please, let's not jump to conclusions and pre-judgement.

My best wishes to all involved.
Glad to hear that the aircraft will be repaired.
