This is the place where the majority of the warbird (aircraft that have survived military service) discussions will take place. Specialized forums may be added in the new future

Snake45 - are you only asking about P-38 aces in the ETO? If not so specified, I'm pretty sure Matt is pulling your leg, so to speak, with Richard Bong, 40 kills, and Tomas McGuire, 38 kills. Bong was the leading US fighter ace in kills. Just my 2 cents and not speaking for Matt.

Probably my favorite British aircraft, I'm happy that I was able to recover these images from the archive!

The guys doing the CAD work on recreating the Whirlwind with surviving plans has maybe found that the props used were detrimental to power with the Peregrines...Was a good thread on Flypast about it buuut after the forum debacle is probably lost now....

The search function at Key isn't sophisticated, but the threads concerned were on the second page of 'Whirlwind propeller'.

We're zero-timing a Kestrel right now for our Fury (biplane) project. It's horrendously expensive.
How the heck are they going to get 2 running Peregrines?
My hat off to them if they do.

The aim is to get 2 dummy engines built, either out of fibreglass or something similar..Funding seems to be an issue with the project and a full time workshop.I do know Airframe Assemblers has started some sheetmetal work for the project.

They're not
The only known Peregrines left on the planet are a pair of smashed and corroded ones dug up from a crash site some years ago.

There has been a theory put forward that the limiting factor on the Whirlwind wasn't the engines but the prop blade design.
