Paint the door outlines and I guarantee you 99% of the punters won't know the difference. Most guys who flew, fixed or anything else on the beauties are gone these days and fewer sadly by the minute. I've had people stand in front of my T-28 and tell others "that's a Thunderbolt"....I wish!

I took my Tiger Moth to an event at Bombardier. (This used to be de Havilland Canada)
More than one person asked me if it was a Mosquito!

Back in 1990 we were at an airshow in central florida with our A-26 and our friend was parked next to us in his blue T-28 when we overheard a few guys talking close by - when one proudly pointed to the T-28 and said - "I used to be a tailgunner on these bearcats"... Just thinking about it all these years later still makes me laugh...
