Warbird Information Exchange

I’m in Toronto and they first reported it as a “business jet.” So when I saw the German markings on the wings I thought Me-262. They quickly corrected. The airplane and other T-6’s are based out of Van Nuys airport. (KVNY) . We fly in there frequently in the Falcon jet and there’s no place to put a warbird down in that area. Van Nuys, Sherman Oaks, Burbank, all extremely congested.
The propellor suggests engine failure while the intense fire suggests fuel on board. He did an amazing job putting it down and being able to walk away from it. T-6’s can be replaced easily. There’s also a P-51D based on the airport and have also seen a Tigercat by the T-hangars.

The clean up/recovery crew managed to set it on fire again about 6 hours after the incident.

The T-6 club has been at Van Nuys forever. In the late 70s I visited a couple of times and they had some "Luftwaffe" Texans then.

I would assume the various paint schemes were for a bit of fun as well as the possibility of film work, though I don't know of any films they were in other than the Pat Benatar video "Shadows of the Night".

I figure if you wanted my opinion on items unrelated to this forum, you'd ask for it.

I h=was told that at one time they had been a CAF squadron and performed at airshows as the "bad guys" plus some of the T-6's are painted as american fighters. They have been in those paint schemes more than thirty five years and are independent of any other organization.

Were they not a CAP (Civil Air Patrol) sqn back in the 60s?
