Hi all
yesterday, a P-51D (G-HAEC) lost its canopy over the town of Münster, Germany, during a flight from England to Berlin (to attend the ILA) - investigations are underway - the German press is making a big fuss out of it.....
I for my part am glad that neither pilot & passenger nor people on the ground were hurt.
Below two photos of the aircraft upon arrival in Berlin - these guys sure look a bit dishevelled.
Cordially

Scratch one bratwurst stand!

Guess the guy who made the last straffing run in a mustang over germany in WW2 is not the last to damage the German Countryside.
The canopy missing reminds me of one of our fellow vermonters, when he lost is canopy in a Mig 21.............now talk about a bad hair day.

How surreal. I can just imagine the poor vendor standing a few feet away from his bratwurst stand in a quiet market square ringing a bell, dressed in full Lederhosen...SMASH!!

I'll bet the street was littered with sausage.
I image the guy in the rear seat is completely deaf at this point. Looks like his headgear got caught in the slipstream as well.

By the looks of it they just added up the cost of a new canopy and a hotdog cart. I bet that's gonna be one spendy cart!

Looks as though they've got a few scratches on the aerial mast, hopefully only superficial damage.
Must have been a rather alarming experience!

Ross Grady's What's Up Doc now American Beauty had a
handle in the back seat on the right side
to release the canopy if needed, Hmm??
Did we lean on it or use one of them to hang
the GPS/XM Radio on??? Just a question only..
Cheers,
Lynn

Hey,
who in their right mind wouldn't want to take a drive in a Mustang Convertible on a sunny day ?
Glad to see that the flight was uneventful and they came down safe....disheveld but safe

I hope they paint a bratwurst stand next to those swastikas on Big Beautiful Doll.

By the way about how much does a "D" model canopy assembly weigh?

Asking about changing the score board on the "doll" made me laugh. My uncle taxied one of the C-47's into a powercart. Hacked it to pieces with the prop. His mechanics added a new stencil on the score board along with the glider tows and supply drops
