B-25 Rides in California

Fri May 19, 2006 7:36 am

I regularly get emails from people asking for advice as to when or where can they take rides in WW2 aircraft via my website ( bomberflight.info )
but I have one now that I need help with !

The lady concerned wants to buy a B-25 ride for her husbands 50th birthday in November ~ they live in Orange County ~ California.

She's just missed the Collings tour stop at Long Beach ( DOH ! ) and I can't find anything else to suggest to her ........

They are willing to drive up to 100 miles from home and a flight thats earlier than Novemeber is OK

Any Ideas Please ?

I don't know how far these are from her but here's where Tondelayo is and will be :

5/19 - 5/21 Hollister, CA (B-17, B-24 & B-25)
Airport: Hollister Municipal Airport (3O7)
Location: Gavilan Aviation
-
5/22 - 5/24 Concord, CA (B-17, B-24 & B-25)
Airport: Buchanan Field Airport
Location: Pacific States Aviation

Thanks Rick

Tondelayo was my first thought too ~ I check these airports for distance on AirNav.com and they are approx 250 nautical miles away ( and thats in a straight line ! )

So the search continues ........ :D

While I'm not sure their B-25 is part of their Membership Rides Program, you might want to contact Planes of Fame at Chino. They have a B-25 and it may be part of the ride program. Never hurts to ask!

I don't have the website right now but you should also check out "pacific prowler" they give rides and will be doing so in Wendover the week of August 21-26. They also offer the opportunity to ride from one show to another as part of the crew.

Another option might be "Old Glory". Owned by John Ward, but operated with Taigh Ramey at his Twin Beech shop in Stockton, Ca. I believe they do fly some shows, so it might be worth a call to see where they will be in the near future. Alan

Not sure of the legalities these days, but Planes of Fame should be able to arange it in Chino. In fact, your friends can see the B-25 fly this weekend at the Chino Airshow. You could probably take up the whole family!

The 3 bombers are in Hollister until tomorrow. Then I think they go to Napa and a few other places. The following week, I believe for all week, they will be at Moffett Field in San Jose.

You can make arrangements for B-25 orientation flights at POF. I don't know the current donation required though.
