Normally I'm not a fan of non-warbirds (this example is not an ex L-17) sporting warbird finishes, but this is nice since you can make the case that the Navion has Mustang heritage in it.

Pretty gaudy paint job, but you know what, I kinda like it!

My Dad always thought highly of the Navion. I don't believe he ever flew or even rode in one, but I guess they were pretty much the coolest civilian thing going when he was a teenager, and you know how bonds and preferences made in those years can last.

Not a Navion but a similar, although more understated, tribute.

This is a family friend's homebuilt Europa in the UK which sports the emblem of 302 (City of Poznan) Squadron RAF, which operated the Spitfire V at the time. His father was Officer Commanding for a period.

While the paint scheme is a little over the top, I'm glad to see such pride in a current Navion owner. I spent many childhood hours riding in my father's Riley-converted Twin Navion. He loved that plane, it was built like a tank, and we flew it everywhere for business and pleasure.

The more modern, pointed spinner looks a little unnecessarily non-standard, but that's picking nits. (I also prefer the look of the Navion's original 2-piece front window, but I'm sure the 1-piece is nicer to fly behind!)

I'm just happy to see one lavished with such attention.
Over the years I've seen far too many neglected or abandoned.
A few miles north of me is a farmer's private strip. Several years ago we had a bad winter and the heavy snowfall caused his hangar to collapse.
The last time I drove by, his Navion was still in there.
