Cessna Bird Dog L-19 / O-1 questions

Mon Apr 08, 2019 12:02 am

1. What are your favorite current aircraft paint schemes on restored Bird Dogs?

2. What are the best Bird Dog stories you are aware of?

3. What are the most famous Bird Dogs - (besides the one that landed on the carrier deck)?

4. If you had to pick 3-5 Bird Dogs to be represented on a model aircraft, which three would you pick and why?

5. What about civilian Bird Dogs in non-military markings?

Ok, I'll bite... It's an L-19 that is still in it's original Japanese markings from the Korean war- unrestored! It was at my A&P school back in the early 80's with a pretty heavy starboard main gear prang. I learned a lot on that bird including how to taxi in a taildragger on a windy day... A few years ago I saw her at Oshkosh, same paint but all patched up. Talk about a surprise! I've got a few photos of her somewhere, can't find them just now.

Favorite paint schemes;
1) the polished aluminum with Canadian maple leaf roundels. By far the prettiest.
2) white with red high visibility panels, as done by Air Repair
3)olive drab semi-gloss with white markings.

Least favorite;
1) Overall drab grey with Air America , or Royal Thai markings. Just ugly.
2) Any scheme with an inaccurate green or OD color hue. Very obnoxious
3) All orange military scheme. Have seen one restored nicely but I think it would get tiring to look at all that orange all the time.

You are an honest and righteous man. You would take good care of the book. I do not make these kind of offers frequently, because I usually don't lend my books, unless it is to a good, reliable person. My choice.

If interested, please send me your snail-mail address via PM.
