Speaking of "Authenticity" ...

What if you chose to paint your Ryan ST in one of these schemes. Would anyone believe it was an authentic scheme?

Sure!! why not? ... here's your proof. Question is, what proof is it? I see Grumman F3F's in the background so I'm assuming 30's and somewhere stateside.

I think those are aircraft used in a ~1941 movie that I can't remember the name. Maybe Dive Bomber with Fred MacMurrray.

You are correct, the Ryan with the radial played a British fighter in "Dive Bomber" with Errol Flynn and Fred MacMurray.
The film featured Vindicators and Helldivers, and F3Fs.

The Grummans were also used in the Walter Pigeon -Robert Taylor film Flight Command, MGM 1940.

The UAL Boeing 247 would fit with LA..I

I don't know about the Ryan with the canopy...A different film?

If you want to go completely bonkers over wrong aircraft, the Travel Air Mystery Ship playing a British fighter in International Squadron is a good place to start.

That would rather be "Eagle Squadron" from 1942.

Yeah and the most amazing thing about that was that in the movie it was touted as the very latest and hottest RAF airplane ;)

The two Ryans with canopies are from the 1941 film International Squadron starring Ronald Reagan; they're shown on page 37 of Bruce Orriss's book When Hollywood Ruled the Skies. The Ryans were used in the film along with the Brown Racer and Travel Air Mystery Ship (!) depicting Spitfires, plus Paul Mantz's Boeing 100 dressed up as a Gloster Gladiator.

The one with the radial cowl (borrowed from a Stinson Reliant, or ?) is from Dive Bomber.
ETA: Here's the Brown Racer:

Eagle Squadron had a doozy, too - check out the derelict Fokker F-32 as a German transport in this shot:

Wonder if it's the same plane that used to be the centerpiece of a Hollywood gas station?

The Ryan with the radial could almost pass as a Macchi 200.

Here's the funny thing. There is no radial. Just the cowl for a radial slapped on an airplane with an inline engine. Note the thrust line. It looked awful in the movie (IMO).
