The F6Fs with the "G" side numbers are Hellcats from VF-1 that flew off the Barnes, CVE-20. Half of the squadron flew from the Barnes and the other half flew from the Nassau, CVE-16. The Nassau F6Fs were coded "H". Both halves of the squadron flew into Tarawa on 25 Nov 43 and the last of the squadron left on 6 Feb 44. They went to Hawaii for R & R and training, before joining the Yorktown on 28 May.

Can somebody tell me how to do a quote for photos to attach to a reply? I had to upload Mark's photo to Photobucket to attach it to this reply and I'm sure there's a better way.

Thanks,

Mac

In the post you want the picture(s) from, note which picture(s) it is. In this case, the first picture.

At the bottom right of the post you want the picture(s) from, click "Quote".

This will open the posting box with the information quoted already in the box, including ALL the pictures.

Delete the stuff you don't want, but leave the "Quote boxes" at the beginning and end..

Drop down several lines and add your comments like I have done here.

Hope this helps.

Thanks, C2J. I appreciate your taking the time to explain it.

Mark, these are some really great shots. I think you've outdone yourself with these beauties.

Even if they aren't in color, they're so clear that modelers can still learn a lot of info regarding weathering.

Mac

Thx folks, glad to post them. Can't forget this stuff.

Here's one of several 'color kodachrome' files I'm going through.

Here's a few of the 'Ole man' when he was with the VF-11 Sundowners on strikes off the USS Hornet on Hong Kong in January 1945.

Hi, do you have the negatives for these, and can you make out the serial number of the RNZAF P40 in your picture posted 18 Aug at 1215 and immediately above? Any more RNZAF aircraft images in your collection?

Great images!
