Japanese Prop Color in WW ll

Tue Sep 10, 2019 11:59 am

Why are the props on WW ll Japanese planes painted what looks like a "Primer Red" color. Standard procedure or perhaps some sort of anti corrosive paint to help protect metal that is often used in a salty environment?

Anti-glare maroon. It was also used by the US for a while on the backsides of props. To a greater extent than black it disappears from view when the prop is turning.
