You might have some luck doing it in 72nd scale, but there aren't many vehicle kits in 48th.
Probably the best way to go would be using a 32nd scale Liberator, that way you could use the wife variety of 1/35th scale military vehicles.

The Clark tug, GMC 6X6 refueler and Cletrac in 1/48 are all readily available from mainstream modeling companies. The F2A tanker trailer is available as a resin kit, though the Autocar tractor is not. A GMC cabover tractor is available in resin.

Is that a B-24D with the Consolidated tail turret fitted at both ends? Was that done at one of the modification centres?
