Pliot to tower... I was only following the F-86!!!
Image A B-1B Lancer made a wheels-up belly landing at Diego Garcia Monday, skidding down the runway for 7,500 feet, according to Air Force reports. The four-person aircrew escaped from the plane. The B-1B was home based with the 7th Bomb Wing, Dyess Air Force Base, Texas.

The 20-year-old bomber was landing at Diego Garcia, a remote base in the Indian Ocean, at the end of a ferry mission that started at Andersen Air Force Base, Guam. The Air Force won’t say why the crew landed the plane with its landing gear retracted.

How do you slide 7500 feet with all of that friction? Hydroplaning maybe? :?:
P.S. How do you type "won’t" without copying and pasting?

When it rains it POURS.
And then the S**T will roll down the hill. Some military careers will be ending over this one.

You have to wonder if it was a mechanical problem or possibly a buzz-job that got too low. Do they still do that sort of thing?

My vote is "forgot to lower the gear".

Don't B-1

Maybe a bad slap on the wrist? The most recently appointed USAF Liasons TDY to Diego Garcia for an indefinite period?
I was under the impression these "modern" birds had all the bells and whistles helping to prevent such incidents.
Of course, if it was a female 'puter... "Lower your LG", "Lower your LG", "Did you lower your LG, DEARRR?"
They may have tuned her out..just like home?

Here's my answer...from a recent thread here on WIX about Snort Snodgrass' F-86 gear-up landing:

http://warbirdinformationexchange.org/p ... c&start=15

I have seen gear-up landings in $30 million F-15Es and $3 million T-38s where there was nothing wrong with the jet other than the gear handle wasn't in the "down" position. The audible warnings in both those jets were completely functional and going off at the time of "landing" (as was the red light in the gear handle, but the three green gear lights were conspicuously not illuminated).

Bottom line is, mistakes happen even given systems to prevent those mistakes.

I don't know any details about this incident, but it certainly would not surprise me if it were 100% crew error. It CAN happen...even with multiple pilots on board and systems to prevent it from happening.

Heard from my still active buddies, yup, it was a Pilot to Co-Pilot "Did you remember to put the gear down?" Co-Pilot to Pilot "Whats that grinding sound?" landing.

Murphys Law perhaps??

Confucious say it is known that when you need full military power to taxi to hardstand, your undercarriage is still up.
