Brenden,

I use a a telescopic monopod that when held aloft gets the camera up to 10-12 feet. I set the lens on the wide side and use a remote electronic shutter.

I usually take half a dozen images to ensure I can crop out what I want.

With low morning sun you have to watch your shadow. :)
