American Aero Services visit

Mon Jan 20, 2020 11:04 am

Stopped by American Aero on Friday to watch the kickoff of the Florida tour for the Collings Foundation. A lot of activity at their place.

I recently saw on social media that there are rumors (again) of the '51C coming to the UK once its overhaul is complete. Any truth to these ?

Is that the P-51 C that Jim used to fly and post about?

If so....nice change of scheme!

They had one on 4 January, dont know if there will be one in February.

The staff is very open to having people stop by during the week.

I'd be interested in an update on the various Catalinas/Cansos that are with American Aero'. I've asked the company itself but no response - to be fair they are probably too busy to answer this sort of question.

I believe the situation is a s follows (designations as per original operator) but if any member can confirm/update I'd be grateful ...

N287 - PBY-5A Cavanaugh Air LLC (possibly wings only as hull now at Sherman, TX although it was at New Smyrna Beach until recently)
N423RS - PBY-5A Tunison Foundation Inc
N459CF - PBY-5A Collings Foundation
N7057C - PBY-6A American Airpower Museum (wings only)
N983CF - Canso A Collings Foundation (dismantled)
