Anyone know if Scott Royce Sr. is still alive and if he ever got his book in print, and what ever happen to Scott Royce Jr. who was once the head of the CAF then headed up Lone Star.

I am not sure of the name Scott, but Ralph was pres of CAF then Lone Star and I believe is doing airshow organizing now.

I stand corrected, it is Ralph Royce Jr who I was wondering about, his father is Scott Royce who's father was General Ralph Royce Sr. of the old Army Air Corps. who lead a raid on Manilia the same day that Doolittle bombed Tokyo.

I talked to Scott back in November, he was working on a miniature P-6 Hawk in a T Hangar across from Lone Star.

Scott Royce is like the Forest Gump of aviation. He has been everywhere from Churchill's house, to hanging with Doolittle, to the Apollo Program. An awesome guy to share a beer with. He is still flying Junior?

On his way in "Junior" the Luscombe to Genneseo Rat Now, you betcha!

spelling

One of these days I got to brush up on my spelling "Queation" gezz. Oh well 15 hour a day job right now and five beers and 1/2 a pint of VO might have something to do with it.

Any thing on his book on his life I saw some of it years ago.

Scott and I went for a ride in Jr. one day with another airplane to take in flight pictures of Jr. What Scott did not tell was he was going to get a little werid with Jr. Well we went out over Ohio and Scott starts these loops and rolls with Jr. While I was a little surprized at I did not get too upset with him.

Then a day or two later I noticed Scott had Jr. outside the hangar and the right aileron off, a closer look and I saw he had drilled off the outside bracket that held the aileron on the airplane. I asked a friend what the old guy was up too, he told me that the bracket had a crack in it and that Scott was making a new one. I said "WHAT" how long has he known about this, his friend said oh well least a month. I said "OH".

I went looking for Mr. Scott in the hangar and found that he had went to lunch, but while looking for him I found the bracket on his work bench. It was cracked all right all the way to the bearing on the lower side.

I took the bracket and waited for Scott to return, when he did I informed him that I just might give him some desert in that I was ready to shove the bracket down his throat.

Dought that it would have phased him though.

I can go on and on on that guy.

Hope this message makes it so those of you who knew Scott Royce. I met him the first time over at Hobby he was living in Randy Wahlbergs hangar where Wilson is now. First time I heard someone call him Scotty he said "a Scotty is an ill tempered little dog" !!! He had alot of good stories. last time I saw him was at an airshow at Galveston before the hurricane. He had crash landed his Mustang kit plane and was getting JR ready to fly. That was a good while ago. Has anyone seen him lately??

I was in a meeting with Ralph a couple of weeks ago.

Hurricane Ike put 18 ft of water plus waves in Scott's hangar across from Lone Star. Those hangars were wacked along with everything in them. Field elevation 8ft + 12 ft LSFM hangar floor+ 6 ft in the hangar.

Scott got the nickname of scotty from me because he could still pull himself up through the nose hatch on 03gulf where the owner went in through the crew hatch. He is the most spry fellow I had ever met for his age and that was 24 years ago.If you see him around please tell him Tom sends his regards please.

Any updates on Scott Royce? I had the pleasure of spending quite a bit of time with him back in the 80's while he was working on Nine-o-Nine after it's accident at Beaver County Airport in Pennsylvania. I didn't know a thing about working on airplanes, but he had me bucking rivets in no time and occasionally driving them, although most of the time he would drill them out and do them over. Scott was the reason I had the honor of riding in the B-17, Texas Raiders, on a hop from Beaver County to the airshow at Geneseo, NY. To top it off, I got to perform the duties of payload specialist during the show as I reloaded pumpkins in the bomb bay during the flight and we dropped them on the airfield. Hard to believe that was over 30 years ago!

We had the honour of flying Scott Royce in our Tiger Moth at Geneseo in July of 2018. (He was 101)
He said that he had flown in two other deHavillands in his past, a DH4 and a DH91 Albatross
A truly remarkable man and at the time still a very capable stick! What a pleasure.
