They tried to capture the full timeline of fighters at that show, from Camel to F-16. The result was a lot of unusual formations that I never saw repeated.
Bob Pond was still alive and Palm Springs contributed the B-17, Hellcat, P-63, and Tigercat. There were 3 Hellcats that year, with Friedkin's and CAF's joining Pond's. Four Corsairs including POF's F4U-1, F2G race 57, and the FG-1Ds that later went to Rod Lewis and Vintage Wings of Canada.
They were not then monetizing early morning access, so you could just show up and look at whatever you wanted with nobody around.
