Interesting warbird picture album

Look like the gent ''Keith C. Smith'' had a close relation with Bob Diemert. Pics mostly from Canada and NZ.

I would swear I saw the purple-ish Bearcat, N7000A, at San Antonio in 1967 or so. I think I was getting my multi-engine rating and walked up and talked to the pilot, who was there just for a fuel and pit stop. I wasn't as much into warbirds then and don't remember his name, but he did tell me about the time to climb record from a standing start to 10,000 ft agl in 93 or so seconds. As he got ready to mount up and depart he said, "just watch". Monitoring over the FBO base station, I remember his asking the tower for a request - a maximum climb to 10,000 on take-off. After a few seconds the tower came back with "Roger, approved" and he did it. I did not time it but it was really impressive. Any one know who might have been the owner/pilot of it back then? At that point the only warbird I had flown and soloed was a Navy-marked Stearman based there at San Antonio International. Just remembering. Thanks for listening.

Amazing pictures. I believe this is the best picture group I have seen. That is Pete Bowers in his Fly Baby #1 and So many other incredible pictures. This is a big book of cool stuff....

Fascinating photos especially of Ormond Haydon-Baillie. He was a well known character at Duxford here in the UK where he based the majority of his collection of aircraft when I was a youngster. My late father often talked about him with great admiration. Sadly taken from us far too early!

Wow, what a goldmine! Amazing collection, taken everywhere from Canada to NZ to Siberia and in some very "Golden Years" of recovery and preservation. Thanks for putting the link up, still digesting it all. The pics raise several questions:

1) Does anyone know the details/ID of the pole-mounted Hurricane? Replica??

2) Have those Lincoln parts ever been recovered??

3) What's the ID of the bright yellow P38?

The Stranraer was restored to flight in Canada out west and the flown to the UK where it now resides full time in a museum.

I think I remember seeing either a video or a pic of it on a wheeled dolly for ground takeoff. Rings a bell anyone?

Boy, what a nostalgia wallow! So many planes I recognize from reading Air Classics in the '70s - the Stranraer, Grumman Duck N55S Bob Diemert recovered from Colombia, the last American Pilgrim N709Y, and I'm only on the third page!
