CORSAIR- the time capsule fighter

Just interested if anyone outside of the UK has seen this new book? Based on the recent restoration of the FAA museums example.

This is the FG-1D (KD431) being featured in the current issue of Warbirds International. If I could afford to own one I would like mine to look just like this one. I haven't taken the time to read all the text in the article but...She's a beauty!..Tom

turns out its still in its original scheme! The museum has just started similar investigation on their Martlet, which could be interesting!

Dave Morris sent a copy for a review in Classic Wings and I have just finished it. What an outstanding piece of work and a benchmark as to how an aircraft can be returned to time capsule operational condition, in this case a 1944 Corsair which is now the most authentic example, with original paint, markings , stencils and wear and tear.

Corsair

I met Dave a few years ago on a trip to the Fleet Air Arm Museum.
We stopped and asked a question about the Corsair being restored and presto, come on in, have a look, climb around and take pics till your tired of it. Dave is a first class guy.

I have a ton of pics if anyone is interested.

I must say, I have had nothing but great experiences going to museums in England.
Ask a fairly intelligent question and the people I have met stopped in thier tracks and helped you to find an answer. Whether it be opening up an a/c, climbing behind the ropes, opening up the archives or calling the Head Currator (sp?). I've always received a SUPER effort to get the job done.

On the other hand, here in the States I've run into idiots that don't know an A/C from a Tank.
I've seen what looked like a Teenager working at the old Champlin Fighter Museum not let an ex-Luftwaffe FW-190D pilot step past the rope to get a better pic. Ofcourse the Teen had no interest in the ex-Luft. pilot or what a FW-190D was.

Mike
