Hello all,
I have recently taken on a volunteer position as a Fly Day Coordinator at Vintage Wings of Canada, located at the executive airport just outside Gatineau Quebec. I will be helping to ensure that visitors will be attended to during the flying operations to allow the crews to do what they do best… fly. The information I am presenting below was extracted from a recent press release, and I added some information obtained from a meeting at VWoC today.
• Vintage Wings of Canada has designated the first Saturday in June, July, August and September as Fly Days so members of the public can bring a picnic to the airport and catch a glimpse of some vintage aircraft flying. This is not an air show.
• In 2006, Fly Days are June 3, July 1, August 5 and September 2.
• The foundation building will not be open for people to tour during these days.
• Washrooms will be available at the Gatineau Airport Terminal building.
• Food services are also available at the Gatineau Airport Terminal building.
• Picnic tables will be provided on a grassy area adjacent to the active ramp inside the perimeter fence. We do not have an estimate for expected attendance so you may wish to bring a lawn chair.
• Attendees are required to respect the rope barriers.
• Attendees are requested to make use of the garbage bins provided if you should have any refuse needing disposal. Loose debris on the ramp can cause damage to the aircraft and put crews at risk.
• Photographers will find the location ideal since you will have the sun to your back and the aircraft will be in good light.
• The events are dependent in weather and aircraft availability.
• Don’t forget your sunscreen! The grassed in area will has no shade at this time. Bring water as well. I understand that a hot summer is predicted.
• There is no planned schedule of when aircraft will be flying, and which airframes. When possible static airframes will be placed on display in view of visitors.
The only information not presented here are the flying times, but I estimate those times would be between 10 AM and 2 PM, although that may vary. I have sent off an email to have this confirmed and will report back here, although unfortunately I will not be able to do so before the first day on Saturday, July 1st.
If you have any questions, please feel free to send me an email (
mrhenniger@AerialVisuals.ca). I will not be in regular contact with my email for the next few days so expect delays with my replies.
Also feel free to check out the VWoC website at
www.vintagewings.ca. Unfortunate this new site may be experiencing difficulties right now. You may have trouble getting through.
I hope you have a chance to come out and see the aircraft in operation. My first Fly Day will be July 1st. I hope to see you at Vintage Wings in the future. Until then… blue skies.
Mike Henniger
