If you hear back from them let me know, with me being local if they have the materials I can run out there. Not like I have anything going on, I'm 100% retired and have been since 2009 at age 42......

Nothing yet. Very much appreciate the help.

I'm not sure what remains there are of the gunnery revetments they used for turrets, it's just a few hundred yards from the beach we went to, but you can see them on Google Earth. I attached an image of the beach we visited on Tyndall and where the rounds were located.

This might be a photo of the turrets you're referring to?

Probably so. Before Michael hit, there were concrete pads like the ones they are walking on in your image. There were also revetments around the area as well.

I recently received base histories for Tyndall Field from AFHRA. So far, only one photo of a P-40 that is stated as having been assigned to Tyndall Field. This was from "Tyndall Air Force Base, A Fifty-Year History, 1941-1991". The P-40 was s/n 42-104928, with '88' marked on the side of the cowl. Unsure if this airplane would have been referred to as "TY 88", similar to the "TY 82" I am in search of.

I too am looking for crisp "TY" marked aircraft (of any type) to enhance the "Flexible Gunnery School" portion of my website (www.fuselagecodes.com ). I currently have no period photos for Tyndall whatsoever !

Thanking you all in advance,

Was at Tyndall today to get my wife her new ID card. Since they're all in the same building I swung by, but no one was in the office. I might try and call ahead next time, before I go out to the base and make sure someone is going to be around.

Whether they might have stepped out for a few, or weren't in today, I just don't know.

Just wanted to touch base and let you know I didn't forget or blow it/you off.

Interesting shots of Tyndall.....

RE: Tyndell Army Air Field

Mark: Thank you so much for posting the Tyndell AAF photo set !!! That file was really a help for me as Tyndell AAF photo material 'on-line' is quite sparse.

So it turns out that the veteran I referred to in my original post has a photo that has portions of P-40's at Tyndall visible in it. In fact, the photo is of him sitting in a P-40. It appears that the photographer was on the wing of the airplane so all that can be seen is the forward windscreen and aft canopy he is sitting in.

In the background, however, P-40N-20 s/n 43-23984 is visible with "Y99" in view. I think it's safe to say that this airplane was "TY99".
