Website, Showed full NMUSAF inventory, ideas?

Fri Sep 25, 2020 11:48 am

I came across a website ages ago that showed the entire inventory of the National Museum of the USAF, and possibly some that had been or might still be in the collection but was recorded as being there. Gave a list that had each gallery labeled A-Z and AA for currently not displayed aircraft and such. I think it had many more museums and general aircraft knowledge on it as well. For the life of me, I cannot remember what it was called or how I came across it. Does anybody have any ideas as to what it was?

This list seems pretty comprehensive, includes the ones under restoration and in storage:

I'm most interested in those in storage. Gosh I'd like to see those. Some real oddballs.

The Wiki list doesn't seem to list all the aircraft controlled by the Museum but displayed elsewhere...A long list if it includes all the city park and memorial aircraft.I

A list of stored aircraft might be interesting...and for awhile in the '90s they had a flyable T-6.

Years ago I suggested to the editor of the Friends Journal there at the museum, he list all of the planes the museum has in storage. Of course it never happened.

CS, I had a chance to see the storage and restoration hangars just over a week ago. Photos from there are included in this Flickr set: https://flic.kr/s/aHsmQXaiP3

Time was a factor (as always at the NMUSAF!), so I didn't attempt to capture everything, especially if I had previous shots. If you have any specific questions, just ask.

No pictures, but it had been moved over near the old Presidential/R&D hangars.

Great stuff, Vzlet - nice to see the B-23 and C-39 again. Note the crate in front of the Dragon - looks like it's got the pieces that were cut from the wreck at Loon Lake.

The F-104 57-1322, and the T-33 behind it (51-6754) were outdoor displays in Huntington, IN that were returned to the NMUSAF several years ago. The tail of the YC-125B is visible behind them in the second photo.

Thanks! Looks like a pretty up-to-date list; all the surviving Chanute a/c are listed at their new locations.

Don’t see two Invaders at Robins AFB. Have they moved the old one somewhere else?

Thanks for the photos. Have they resumed the tours again? What a shame to see ShooShooBaby locked away.

Glad to see the "Ju-52" tucked back in there...where is the CASA 2111?

Great list...
A couple of takeaways...
-Not many F-106s preserved.
-A lot of A-7s, more than I was expecting....and we'll never run out of
T-33s.

Of course the list doesn't show privately owned aircraft, so there might be a couple more early jets than the list shows, as well as of course, WWII warbirds and post-war types that had civil careers.
