Update on Pima's A-20G Havoc

For those who don't Facebook. It has moved into the display hangar. Final assembly and positioning next week.

Great to see progress on this, I remember reading about the heli-lift recovery from the swamp way back in the 90's. Congratulations to the guys at Pima on finally completing the restoration, she's been deserving of attention for years.

It was disappointing when she didn't end up coming to the RAF Museum, as was once the plan, but still Pima is a great home for her.

Boy there WWII collection is certainly growing. Wasn't the P-51 basically a parts aircraft? How much of it is original? I'd imagine we should expect to see the BF 109 next.

For the Mustang? Probably about 60% is original North American parts from many sources. For the A-20 I'd guess it is about 75% original to this airframe as it left the factory.

It would have been close to 100% had it not been stripped of parts for "Hell'n Pelican" and "J" is for Jessica".

It is looking good, James! After several visits seeing it in various states of restoration it is gratifying seeing it in the home stretch.

I'm always amazed at the growth of Pima's WWII collection.

Many years ago, they didn't have much beyond transports, the B-24, B-17 and B-29. No fighters to speak of.

I know some here constantly feel the need to point out (criticize, incessantly moan about to show us how much of an expert or "purist" they are) that some are composites...but considering the cost of a "real" restored airframe...many of which don't have a lot of WWII metal left in them...I'm happy with what they have.

Better than nothing....or would the critics prefer a flying aircraft be grounded to put in the museum?

Wonderful to see the three Boston/Havocs recovered by the RAAF, using our Chinooks and team, from PNG.

It's a bit churlish to suggest that Big Nig would be "close to 100%, if not stripped. The aircraft were not perfect when recovered by any means. Be happy we have three birds to see now...

Without the Australian RAAF involvement, we would not have the 3 aircraft to display. It is great to see all 3 finished for every one to enjoy both in person and photos through the web. I thought there was parts of others as well?

As a kid I @1979 I thought I saw several A-20 fuselages along the fence at Planes of Fame, Chino. Was I dreaming? Maybe they were A-26's??

Probably the ones that were part of the Tallichet collection. They had a fenced in area adjacent to their hangar in two different locations. I don't remember POF ever having one.

That must be them. I remember more than one A-20 along a fence as we were driving on a road at Chino. Guess I should have said near present day POF. There were several very interesting yards there.

Do you know where the Tallichet ones ended up?
