These are some of the best up close pictures of the old Gal I've ever seen.

Neat pics. Interesting that she was OD and repainted desert tan. I also didn't know the aluminum was marked with Alclad markings.

All Aluminum sheet has markings on it detailing the type, and thickness. It's the only way you could keep track of things. It is pretty cool though, as these sorts of markings usually survive well, even on very battered wrecks. The cooler things though are the pencil construction marks, where the actual factory workers made pencil markings to define cutting points etc. Sometimes there even sign-off signatures, or graffitti.

Great photos. Too bad she doesn't look like that now.

Cheers,
Richard

Is she still out there in the desert? The navigator is from my hometown and is buried here as well.

More or less she is in a police compound in Tobruk, Lybia.

The buzz as recent as December on http://www.airpirates.com is that efforts are underway to recover LBG and bring her back state side.

I'm surprised she was in such good shape back when the pics were taken in 1990. I was under the impression she had been removed from the crash site far earlier.

If I'm not mistaken wasn't there only one crewmember that was never found?
