Turrets and gun positions

Sorting through the archives and came across this interesting mount. I especially like the "fish bowl" viewing bubble

I will add more images as I come across them in the archives.

I've seen the field mod twin 50's before. I've never seen the six gun chin turret. I like it! I wonder what they didn't like about it.

I think the guy who came up with this came home and became the hot rodder who first said, "If a little is good, more is better, and too much is almost enough."

I’d read somewhere that this was a non-rotating gun mount. This linked article says the same thing and has more information. It was fired by the pilot and the ammunition was stored in the nose.

The Last Straw was one of the B-17Es that flew into Pearl Harbor on Dec.7th 1941.

It was a one off experiment. Fixed guns.

I wonder if the ball turret got showered with links and spent cartridges? Not sure I'd want to be the ball turret gunner when those chin guns fired.

Amazing what armament could be fitted into the nose of a Fortress, RAF Coastal Command put a 40mm anti-shipping Vickers S gun in the nose of a Fortress IIa (B17E).

Reminds me of a particularly aggressive Dalek.
