The WWII weekend is essential to keep the museum alive

I can't make it this year but I'm going to buy a ticket anyway

I did attend the re-enactor coordinating meeting, and they are planning on holding the event June 4,5,6.

So how do the re-enactors feel about wearing (non-historically correct) face masks? Unless you're with a medical unit display, it'll look silly.
That's one reason I haven't done anything in the hobby since this pandemic started, other than the medical risks.

It's been almost a year that we have had to wear masks. Is it such a problem that we need to quit living? Mask wearing is not going away, as long as COVID is evolving (which it is doing, rapidly). So if we need to wear masks for the next five years, I'll wear them. And I will say this- look at any local history book about WWI. There are pages and pages of photographs of people who died due to the Spanish Influenza. If they had worn masks, washed hands and social distanced, they would have (probably) lived.

This event is a unique, WWII-themed, aviation, re-enactment, militaria show, book-signing, equipment-playing extravaganza. This is the equivalent of Old Rheinbeck, but for WWII, AND on steroids. There are over 100 vehicles, hundreds of individual displays, and some which are not viewable in any museum, anywhere. The airshow features unique acts, which you can watch amongst the background scenery of WWII which only shows up at this event. If you don't like this event, you don't like WWII. I have been messing with WWII stuff since I was 12 years old, and wouldn't miss this event except if I am sick with COVID, injured seriously, or dead. If I have to wear a mask to go, I'll wear a mask and go.

i wouldnt want to sit in the dead of the sun with a mask on outside. just my 2 cents. Masks take away from the world war 2 feel unfortunately. especially photos

I very explicitly told the members of my group that each of them would need to make their own decision about attending, and that there would be no shaming or encouragement for them to do anything other than to make their own decision. I told them that I would back them up, whatever that decision was. We have people with immune compromising conditions, or who care for people with those conditions, and that bit of personal service comes first and above all other considerations. From among those of us who have the independence to attend, it looks like I will have a group of personnel attending. We do this to support the museum which all of us have great affection for and wish to continue in operation, even if mostly to keep WWII Weekend going.

Come out and do your part, if you feel safe doing so. This is a great event. Who knows how long it will continue to go on?

I really hope the WWII Weekend is a 'go'.

I was planning on taking my niece last year, she's a History Major, Sophomore in college and knows that the Hellcat was a a Naval aircraft used in the Pacific Theater but has never had the opportunity to see an actual WWII aircraft up close, let alone see one fly.
