555th "Triple Nickle" Parachute Infantry - African American Paratroopers of WWII were deployed to the Northwest to fight forest fires. They were the pioneers of the smoke jumpers of today! Heroes in their own right.

Just by coincidende, I watched this morning a documentary on parachutes.

They showed forest service para-jumpers or smoke jumpers in 1934 jumping out of a tri-motor.
