Weeeee....a black Hurry!

We all complain about glossy schemes.....

But a flat black Hurry would take the fighting lead!

Tks again Mr. Mark!

One of the BBMF Hurricanes is currently in a matt black nightfighter scheme.

Nice selection of pics, not often you see pics of 3sqn Hurri's in night-fighter colours. They were a day fighter or ground attack squadron most of the war, the night-fighter/intruder role was a relatively short interlude.

Interesting to see the groundcrew in gas attack gear, too.

Edited to add: Having looked up 3sqn's commanders on good old Wiki, it appears that A.E. Berry was CO from April to August 1942. The style of RAF roundels and fin flash on BN185 came into use in May 1942, which helps narrow the timeframe down. There seems to be a Hurri in day camo with a mixture of late and early markings in the background, so perhaps the pics were taken around the time of the switch to the later style markings.

Neat, the exhaust flame suppressors/blockers to preserve night vison are noteworthy.

Here's the BBMF's Hurricane when in night fighter scheme. Not sure when either schemes were done. These two photos are from the BBMF's website.
