Flying a dual control P-40 has been on my personal bucket list for some time now. Was all set to fly Collings P-40 that went by the way side. Then was going to try and get something worked out with Thom Richards that is still a possibility, but not set in stone. Close but no cigar.

That was probably the POF's Zero with the correct engine. I believe its the only one that flies with the correct, original engine.

Don't be so sure! I just saw it taking off in the distance from my hangar vantage point. I'll look again this weekend. Could have been either. The POF Zero flew a few weeks back for their monthly event, but I've seen the other one being actively worked on in a nearby hangar and it was all cowled up and looked complete last time I saw it.Matt Gunsch wrote:Blackbirdfan wrote:That was probably the POF's Zero with the correct engine. I am sure BDK would know which Zero was flying, since he is based at Chino and has seen every flying Zero there at one time or another.

Previously owned and restored by C & G Air (Chris and Gail Kirchner), it was sold and re-registered to Echo Delta Aviation in early 2018. Initially, the aircraft was sent to Thom Richard's facility at Warbird Adventures at Kissimmee, FL, to receive a newly overhauled engine, new fuel tanks installed in the wings, and the "TP-40N" conversion, matching Thom Richard's example. Then the project was sent to American Aero Services, where it appears that a thorough overhaul/re-restoration was begun. I'm not at liberty to share the most recent photos I've seen of it (in addition to being fully repainted, it now features a shark mouth rather than the "Burma Banshees" skull as before), but Thom Richard posted this video of the aircraft this past July, when undergoing an early test run at New Smyrna Beach, FL: https://www.facebook.com/airrace/posts/ ... 5927471987

So NZ3184 isn't being restored as a TP-40N? For some reason they were one and the same.
