Harry Whereatt's Hurricane sold.

Tue Jun 13, 2006 9:33 pm

Gentlemen,

I received information that the Hawker Hurricane owned by Harry Whereatt of Saskatchewan has been sold. A wealthy gentleman in Ottawa, Ontario who owns a software company, and already has a flying Spitfire and Hurricane that recently arrived from the UK, purchased the Hurricane.

I am told the Hurricane will be shipped to the UK for complete overhaul. There is talk that Whereatt's second Lysander may also eventually be purchased by the same fellow in Ottawa.

It would appear the warbird population of flyable Hurricanes in eastern Canada will increase dramatically.

Norman

Thanks for that but I regret that it is not necessarily the case that there will be two Hurricanes there - I think you will find one may be moving on - a long way perhaps ?

Kind regards

John.
If Mike Potter does in fact send a Hurricane to Australia or New Zealand, will it be a straight sale or is there a chance it will be a trade for a P-40 or a Corsair which I understand he is interested in obtaining?

The intent of Vintage Wings of Canada and Mike Potter is to have two Hurricanes in the air along with the Spit for formation flights for the 100th anniversary of the first powered flight in Canada in 2009. This was the last statement I received from them. As far as I know there are no plans to move on the Mk IV. As for the Mk XII they are planning a restoration that will take them up to 2009.

The last I heard was that the majority of the work would be done at VWoC. The engine would go for an overhaul elsewhere.
