Honest question; I'm an east coast guy. Is there a salt air/corrosion presence in either Chino or Santa Maria?

Curious, but not suggesting that any moving plans change based on my question.

Chino is about 35 miles from the ocean and quite dry. Santa Maria is about 12 miles from the ocean and is subject to frequent marine layer cloud coverage.

So, it is about 3.5 hrs from Chino to Santa Maria alone. How many volunteers would be willing to make that drive?

For me from San Diego it is almost 5 hours.

Train from SD to SM and back is an option.

I would gather plenty of volunteers in SM as well.

Depending on how you count, this would be the fourth major move for the collection, correct? First Claremont, then Ontario, presently Chino, and now Santa Maria? I know they also have the Valle location, previously had another adjunct facility at the Movie World in Buena Park, and, as I understand, there was a Planes of Fame East, too.

You'll have to excuse me, as I often get them confused with the various Tallmantz ventures at Orange County Airport: Flightarama, Movieland of the Air, and the International Flight and Space Museum. So laying them out like this helps me keep things straight.

GRAND CANYON, AZ LOCATION Closed until further notice. (https://planesoffame.org/visit/valle-az-location)
Planes of Fame/Cars of the Stars was in Buena Park
Planes of Fame East was the Bob Pond Collection, now in Palm Springs
I recall there was some kind of air racer museum for a while too, maybe in the '90s? I've forgotten where that was located.

The air race museum was in Reno early 90’s.

"Planes of Fame East" was the Bob Pond collection.
Later Pond moved his collection to Palm Springs CA, now known as the Palm Springs Air Museum

We are excited to announce that @planesoffameairmuseum is participating in the Central Coast AirFest to be held October 15 & 16, 2022 at the Santa Maria Airport! The museum plans to bring over a dozen aircraft to the event and perform several acts during the two-day AirFest. We hope that many of you will be able to attend.

The AirFest is a great opportunity for museum aircraft to "stretch their wings," some of which, such as the our B-25 "Mitchell" bomber, haven't flown in over two years due to pandemic-related event cancellations. Well, that time is no more and we are excited about this!

The coming months will be an excellent time to visit, as the museum will return to a flurry of activity in preparation for this AirFest. Currently, the following @planesoffame aircraft are scheduled to participate in the event:

Lockheed P-38J "Lightning"
Curtiss P-40N "Warhawk"
North American P-51D "Mustang" (2 aircraft!)
Grumman F8F "Bearcat"
Lockheed T-33A "Shooting Star"
North American F-86F "Sabre"
Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-15bis
North American B-25J "Mitchell"
Vought F4U-1A "Corsair"
Douglas SBD "Dauntless"
General Motors TBM-3E "Avenger"
Vultee BT-13B "Valiant"

Stay tuned for more details, to include who will be flying them, how you can help, etc. Thank you all for your continued support!
