Nieuport 28

Wed Jun 22, 2022 11:12 am

In the Warbird Report of Air Classics July 2022 issue , it covers the restoration of a Nieuport 28. The aircraft show the 94th Aero Squadron hat in the ring markings, but it has French roundels. Any explanation of why it was marked that way?

Would that be the Collings Foundation one? Warbird News also did a feature on it if its the same airframe, while the article doesn't have the answer you are after I thought it could add some additional context to your question.

I thought the US had pilots flying in the French Air Force before they entered WWI. similar to the RAF "Eagle Sqn" in WWII.

Considering the roundels are similar...
The U.S. is (from the outside) Red, blue, white
France is Red, white, blue...

Mistake at the paint shop?
Either in period, possible since they were French aircraft...maybe they came like that from the factory (or overhaul shop) or French AF stocks and no one bothered to change it...
or now on the aircraft.
Stranger things have happened...
