For those that know me, also know my bag is the P-40, and I’ve been researching them for years but as a by-product I though I’d take a look at FY/Air Ministry serials and Allison Manufacturers numbers match up for the P-40’s engine. So armed with a copy of Vee's for Victory and a bunch of other docs I set to work.........How hard can it be???? - Well Famous last words.......
Seems my project has taken a life of its own to cover all the V-1710's. To date I have managed to put together almost 7500 Allison engine numbers to FY numbers and 2900+ Allison serials to Air Ministry numbers, and a further 3500 engines that don’t have FY or Air Ministry Numbers (change to the way engines were numbered). I also have another 6000 with FY numbers but no Allison serials (with probably another 3000 to be transcribed).
So I’ve run into just a little road block and hoping someone (or lots of someone’s) will be able to help me out. Do you have access to an Allison Engine plate, do you work on/rebuild Allison’s, or know someone that owns an Allison powered aircraft? or finally if you visit or work in a museum that has a V-170 on display. I'm especially interested in any early C/F/E models.
If so, would you be willing to copy, take a photo or just transcribe the plate details. I just need the details for the top line of the plate on the starboard side of the engine (Air Corps or Bureau Model, the Air Corp or Bureau No. (FY – although not all have this due to the number change) and the MFRS, No.), I don’t need to know who owns it or where it is, but hoping this data will help crack quite a bit more of the Spreadsheet I’m working on.

Hi Buz,
This engine is held by the Ferrymead Aeronautical Society, Christchurch, New Zealand.
It was obtained from a power boat racer who had used it in his race boat. As he had acquired it from the post WW2 disposal here in NZ it must be out of a P40.
Hope this is of use/interest
regards

Buz,
Should we assume you're already searching V-1710s online, such as those for sale?
For example, the following ebay link includes data plate pics for a -35. Does that qualify as an "early C/F/E model"?

Thank you, just what the Dr ordered. If interested that engine was fitted to a P-40E-1 41-25128, which was used by 68th FS (aircraft later became NZ3098). If you're in contact with Ferrymead Aeronautical Society please let them know which aircraft (if they are interested and don't already have the info)

Thank you, I had the FY number but not the MFG No. (always good to confirm numbers). This is the engine it had when boxed for shipment from the US ( Aircraft as you said 41-35964 - NZ3018).

A good friend has a flying P-40. I didn't pull panels to get to the data plate for the engine on the airplane, but this is one of his spare engines.

Thank you I had the engine number for this one but not the FY (it confirmed what I thought, but confirmation is better than an educated guess) - if you happen to find out what engine he's running that would be awesome.
To the plate you posted this was fitted to P-40E-1 41-25141 (later to the Royal Australian Air Force as A29-101), not 100% sure when it was removed from the airframe (this one was damaged a few times), engine last seen at CMU Tamworth in 1945 before being sold by DAP. Might send you a PM if ok, I'd just like to confirm something with you.

Engine Data plate recovered from Alison 1710 engine in Kailua Bay from P-40B/C wreck. Unknown serial number of aircraft. If you can help match it to the aircraft serial number it would be much appreciated.

Thank you, I'm still looking for this one for you, just haven't found a way to crack it as of yet (but there's many more files to go through - although AFHRA have slowed me a little with the change of rules) - PM inbound

For those following on at home the present state of play is as follows
Identified
3666 Commercial engines identified by MFG and AM No. - Large number of airframes that these were fitted to
75 Commercial engines by MFG No. only (AM no. hasn't been found - yet)
32 Commercial engine by MFG (these didn't have an AM no.)
7764 USAAF Engines identified by MFG and FY Numbers - Also a large no. of airframes these engines were first fitted to
7284 USAAF engines by MFG A-0 No.
Partially identified
200 - C-15 engines with either USAAF FY or AM number - not matched to MFG
2392 - E (mostly -35 and -63) engines with either USAAF FY or AM number - not matched to MFG
153 - F3R or dash 39 engines with either USAAF FY or AM number - not matched to MFG
23 - V-1710-73 engines with USAAF FY - not matched to MFG
106 - V-1710-87 engines with USAAF FY - not matched to MFG
33 - V1710-99 engines with USAAF FY - not matched to MFG
3666 - V-1710 (P-38) engines with USAAF FY - not matched to MFG
45 - F-2/F-5 engines with AM number - not matched to MFG
Still have a bunch of paperwork and files to attack, but on my count heading towards almost 19 thousand of the engines fully identified, which is about 1/3rd - only other news is my coffee bill seems to have gone up
