It's been well known for years and a victim of TIGHAR...

Yep been known about for years. It's most recent appearance was in 2014 and I think that is when TIGHAR got involved. It was given protected status in 2019.

If there was,
the protectionist faction...
or TIGHAR
probably scared them away.
It seems TIGHAR's Schick is "If we can't make money off of it, nobody will".
I have been to many UK museums, and the P-38 is more complete than a lot of wreckage on display.
Plus, it's a very rare type...I don't know if any Lightnings on display there...so you would think someone would want it.

Makes about as much sense as "preserving" the Atka B-24 wreck out in Alaska. For who?! Makes NO sense to me.

As much as I have no regard for TIGHAR, that P-38 might as well stay right where it is. It stopped being a P-38 a long time ago. It's just a Lockheed shaped mass of aluminum oxide now and all it would do is break up and collapse if you even tried to move it.

It could be moved just for the sake of cleaning the beach. It's not usable but it would make a very interesting aquarium exhibit if prepared properly. It would look good in a public aquarium, aviation museum, or at home with a Bond villain.
