Planes of Fame Tidbits

From a post in the Friends of Planes of Fame group:

⭐ 2022 Planes of Fame Airshow - No, we are not having one this year sadly. It's not due to the pandemic, but due to the extreme construction currently taking place around the airport. This construction has made it impossible for us to try and get thousands of vehicles to and from the airport. No, they are NOT tearing out the field where we park all the vehicles. They are building a huge warehouse where the cow farm was across from Merrill. As such, they have torn up and are working on Euclid, Merrill, and other roads with lanes reduced and full closures as they put new underground lines in. It's actually better that warehouses are moving in next door vs. houses and residential areas.

⭐ Santa Maria - NO. Planes of Fame is NOT closing up the Chino museum and moving to Santa Maria. I cannot stress this enough. NO NO NO NO. The museum is 'expanding' (like how Disneyland expanded to Florida's Walt Disney World). This will be ANOTHER facility. Please STOP spreading this rumor that POF is packing up and leaving Chino. Why would the museum work so hard on a new Korean War memorial out front to only abandon it in a few years' time? Santa Maria's facility will be another facility. Chino WILL still continue to have Hangar Talk Events and other assorted events. Chino WILL still continue to have lots of aircraft. The Santa Maria facility will allow us to rotate aircraft between Santa Maria and Chino, and allow the museum to display aircraft they haven't been able to do due to space constraints. Stay informed: https://www.pofsantamaria.org/

⭐ 2022 Central Coast Airshow (Santa Maria) - NO, this is NOT replacing the Planes of Fame Airshow. POF is bringing aircraft TO the airshow and participating in it instead of a Chino show because we had to cancel. This is NOT the new POF Airshow. But we are bringing a dozen aircraft to the airshow, and it'll be the first time some of these aircraft have flown since the last POF Airshow. If you want to help sponsor these aircraft: https://www.emailmeform.com/builder/form/6DVxhq90731z

⭐ POF Airshow future - Future POF Airshows are being looked at closely and will continue to be at Chino. Once it's feasible to put one on again, trust me they will.

Well I am glad they cleared up the Santa Maria plan as an additional site, not a closure of Chino, even as we recently discussed it in the thread below many (including me) had the impression that it was a total move from Chino to Santa Maria. No matter what they say, I still think some of those discussions about the long term viability of Chino (especially the airshow) are valid:

Airshow or not , until the $1.00 a year lease goes away or a good deal like it doesn't exist they are not moving out of Chino. There's been millions invested in that site .
