Does anyone know why the later production Canadian Lancs had earlier serials? The earlier examples were KBxxx and the later ones FMxxx, which seems to be the reverse of logic.
Any ideas?

Talk to Don Christopher, who is leading the Lancaster restoration at Windsor.
I don't think he posts here, but he's quite active with their project on FB.

My guess, and only a guess, is that they circled back and used older serials that were not assigned or had been assigned to contracts that were subsequently canceled.

Some Mosquitos were serialed in the KB range as well. I think the Mosquito Guy Gibson was killed in was KB267.

You would have to look up when the various contracts were signed and the serial blocks allocated. I had a quick look at UKSerials and noticed that there is a large continuous block of KA and KB serials allocated to Mosquitos and Lancasters, the FK, FL and FM range appears more spotty, with smaller serial blocks having been allocated or reserved. No real conclusion can be drawn from that of course, but to me it looks like they used this range to make up the numbers when smaller contracts were allocated (if that makes any sense...).
