Here's a shot you F4U buffs may enjoy. This is my dear friend Bill Popp flying a VF-84 F4U-1D out of NAS North Island in mid 1944. He had just finished a combat tour with VF-17 Jolly Rogers and was one of a number of former member who formed VF-84 and flew combat again from
the USS Bunker Hill. I'm clueless about all the freaking gas Bill's hauling and he could recall either. I've never seen a F4U carrying those big tanks you usually see on P-38s. Bill had top bail out from this F4U when his wingman collided with him after becoming disorientated during a practice mission.

Jaysus, Joseph, and Mary... what a phenomenal treasure trove you have, Jack!!!

Thank you SO much for posting these... I do have one request, though. Would you have any shots of Greg Weissenberger or his F4U-1 "white 6" outside of what's in the Osprey Corsair Aces book?

Thanks again, and happy Fathers Day! :)

Lynn

I think this is the same photo, but you may get more detail than the little picture in the book.

Thx muchly for posting those, Jack! I'll definitely be calling on you for ref material when I get to my VF-17 piece coming up.

In the meantime, what you got in the way of Vietnam Phan Rang F-100Ds and/or Misty FAC F-100s?

Wade
