Colonel Joseph Kittinger. 1928-2022

Thu Dec 29, 2022 10:45 pm

Yesterday when looking for something online, I happened across some news I hadn't seen here, namely the passing of Joe Kittinger.

He was perhaps best known for his three parachute jumps from the edge of space in 1959-60, to prove that high altitude ejections were survivable. In jumping from a balloon 102,000 feet, he went supersonic...without an airplane.
He later flew B-26Ks in Vietnam, then commanded a Phantom squadron.
He was credited with one kill, but was later shot down and spent time as a POW.

He was the real deal.

RIP, Sir.
