Last I heard is that there was a nasty storm and that she slipped off the barge that was bringing her home. She will rest forever in the Pacific like so many other Fortresses that met the same fate...

...Just kidding

It could take as much as a month to get from there to here, depending on how many stops the ship has to make to pick up cargo.

For my sins ~ I've spent over 25 years in the container shipping industry.

This is a tough move to arrange properly. It won't fit into a shipping container ~ so it has to be moved as break bulk cargo. Getting it away from Lae is OK ~ but it has to go "somewhere" where it will be transhipped without problems ( Singapore for example won't allow "military" cargo to tranship through their port )

And of course the transhipment port has to have a connection to another vessel that will carry it to Long Beach !

Many of the big container carriers ~ including the one I work for ~ won't touch break bulk because it takes too long to handle in the port, theres always the risk of damage intransit, plus to stow something like this properly ~ it needs of be secured to the deck and have a curtain wall of containers stacked around it to protect it from storm damage. ( That requires careful planning for all the containers below deck ~ which are now trapped by the deck cargo )

God speed to Swamp Ghost and the project team for a safe landing in the USA.

Hi Guys,

Just to add to Bomberflight comments, the same applies to Hong Kong, strategic equipment (military) is not allowed to enter the port unless the shipper/consignee has applied for an import & export licence, no matter if it has been declared as demilitarised, this applies even if the cargo is not going to be unloaded.

We had an example of this in May this year when a Mig was shipped ex Ukrain bound for a US destination, no import/export licences meant the beast was IMPOUNDED and will probably be SCRAPPED.

Even China (PRC) cannot get passed Hong Kong customs, a couple of years ago they had three armoured cars impounded and scrapped for this very reason.

So beware always check the routing of your shipments, you never know, its always better to spend time on research and a small amount of money
on documentation, than lose big bucks when your favourite project gets been impounded.

Stuart
