This is the place where the majority of the warbird (aircraft that have survived military service) discussions will take place. Specialized forums may be added in the new future

I recall seeing photos in a Life Magazine of the aircraft unloaded at Martinique sitting on a hillside. This was an early war issue maybe 1942. It sticks in my mind because it was the first time I realized there was a biplane Helldiver.

In 1940 France bought several different types and some were transported from America using the old aircraft carrier Bearn including 27 (or 25, depending on which Wiki page you consult) Curtiss H-75s, forty-four SBC Helldivers, twenty-five Stinson 105s, as well as 6 Brewster Buffalos for Belgium. When France surrendered the Bearn was diverted, with the aircraft it was ferrying, to Martinique and most of the aircraft were apparently hauled onto nearby hillside and left to rot.

I'd like to see a Buffalo replica flying.

One would think the Stinsons might have been worth something, hopefully some saw some use.
