Nice work ... but it will always be "Lefty's P-38" to many of us ...

So is the Red Bull P-38 the former "Scatterbrain Kidd"?

I guess the flashy paint on the Allison is a sign of things to come regarding
"WHITE LIGHTNING'S" paint scheme. I think I'm going to Vomit

Atleast have the decency to paint her as a warbird not a bilboard.

Wow, all I can say is that I am glad there are those folks to which a "money is no object" approach is a possibility! A restoration of this level is great to see - while I sincerely would like to see a low level advertising approach to this plane I certainly understand that one would want to be able to write it off as "advertising".

Notice that in photo #12, they have left a panel of the skin on the left side of the cockpit painted in the White Lightnin' scheme with all the crew credits?
In my book, with the red-and-white engines, a white engine mount, and that skin piece still in the original paint...IS IT GOING BACK TO THE WHITE LIGHTNIN' PAINTJOB??

We could hope so, Randy. That panel is not there in some of the other photos. If they're not going to keep it on the aircraft I hope they are planning to preserve it for posterity because there are a lot of great folks listed on it.

I notice that there is an old white piece of skin on the other side also.
I think they are using them to check alignment.

That makes sense, but no clecos on the smaller white section though. Was this section never removed during restoration? A mystery to be sure!
One thing for sure though: That fellow with the bucking bar has got to be getting claustrophobia.

Anyone know if they're going with the small P38E-H style intakes like White Lightning had or are they going with the larger intakes of the J-L style?

Huh swap to larger J-L intakes?? Umm why?
I'm not sure but as for as the website leads you to believe it's going to be a restoration not a restification. Well atleast as far as the structure of the plane is concerned can't say much about the paint job at this point.

Most of the panels on the side of the cockpit screw on with countersunk machine screws into literally thousands of nutplates. Unless a panel is corroded or damaged, I don't know why they would replace it (although I do know people who have done things like that, so I wouldn't be totally surprised!). Paint stripper is cheap!
I hope they end up polishing the plane within an inch of its life!
