Seems like the gear legs are missing the fairing or brace.

You're correct, a fairing seems to be gone from the lower strut.
Probably removed for ease of servicing, a lot of military types lost wheel pants and similar items.
By then, the type was pretty obsolescent, so it wasn't much of an issue.
