Mike Will this new Hurricane be painted in Canadian Colors? From what I have heard KZ321 will be left as is ( Canadians served in the squadron that it represents ) ?

I would hope and guess that this new one will wear its original RCAF markings and configuration (i.e. no spinner, etc.). It would be so great to have a Mk.XII flying regularly again that isn't pretending to be something else.

It is way too early to have an answer to that one, altough it is a safe bet that it will be in Canadian colours.

I dropped by his new hangar on Sunday while in the area for a car show and I was very very impressed with the new building...

Hope to see more of his collection very soon :D

As some of you may, or may not be aware, there was some confusion created resulting from a recent statement by Vintage Wings of Canada who are in the process of acquiring Mr. Whereatt's Hurricane MK XII. Comments received by some were a little dissappointing, but that sometimes happens. I vouch for Tim and the other staff of VWoC when I say they are people of the highest character and professionals all around. If that was not the case I wouldn't be spending much of my spare time with them in a volunteer capacity.

To clarify the issue Tim Leslie released a statement today, I have included it below.

If anyone has any questions please feel free to send them my way and I will do my best to get an answer.

Unfortunately, through some miscommunication there was some concern raised. However, any misunderstanding between the two parties has been resolved the old fashioned way...talking plainly, honestly, and directly with one another. I suggest any speculation on what Vintage Wings intends to do with Mr. Whereatt's Hurricane is purely that... speculation. We consider Mr. Whereatt's workmanship to be of the
highest order. That being said, we are obliged to thoroughly inspect
the aircraft when it comes to our hangar - any operator would do the
same. As well, both parties agree the engine requires an overhaul.

It is most regrettable that in an attempt to clarify a few aspects to those who take an interest in these matters regarding the status of this aircraft some missteps occurred. I take complete responsibility, neither Mr. Potter or Mr. Whereatt were party to any remarks made about the condition of Mr. Whereatt's Hurricane or Vintage Wings intentions...those were mine. I will know better next time. Sometimes the best of intentions can be derailed by an innocent attempt to get the facts out.

FYI

I have received confirmation from a very reliable Transport Canada source that Mr. Potter has indeed aquired the Spence Swordfish.
Also, I am told that he is recruiting a world class maintenance crew to maintain his collection and has been contracted to maintain the A/C of the Ed Russel collection also. Hence the reason people saw the Hurrican there.

keep'em flying

Fleet16B--

Mr Russell's Huri was indeed being annualled at VWoC. The arrangement you mention would make considerable sense given the similarity of aircraft in those two collections (except the 109, of course). Ultimately the result would be, some offseason, THREE flyable Hurricanes in the same hangar. Wonder when the last time was that would've been the case anywhere...In any case, the Warbird scene in Ontario is certainly looking up.

On another topic...Dundas?? Geez, if I squint I should be able to see you from here! :D I live over near Dundurn Castle, and work at McMaster University. Which Fleet 16B do you fly? I've seen a "new" one at the two Friendly Foes events; that one? (C-FDAF I think).

Cheers

S.
