Well Paul, that's what the gub'mint has come up with, now it'll be interesting
to see what the operational crews name her! Time will tell....

How much will the price go up, now that it has a name?
I would have named it after the first flight.

plain disappointing, & so un-original it's practically lame. they merely copped out, took the easy road & went to a 5 martini lunch on our dime. how they could take a state of the art futuristic weapon system & apply a respectable, but thoroughly recycled name is just throwing in the towel toward the road of least resistance. they should have consulted / used a real high tech system for finding names & definitions........ it's called webster's dictionary!!

I understand that there was some discussion of naming the new fighter the "Spitfire II", so does anyone know for certain which aircraft they consider to be the "Lightning I"?

This one?

good question!!! but the jet version never earned the honor of the new namesake in my opinion.

Agreed it never went into combat, but it still holds a few time to height records and regularly used to whip some F-16 ass!

As for Spitfire II!!!! Over my cold dead body.
