A few Duxford pics

Nick Grey was flying one of these Mustangs. (For the life of me I can't remember who was flying the other. It'll come to me about 2 seconds after I hit the SUBMIT button.) They put on a fantastic exhibition of formation flying.

Here's the Buchon.

Thought the two Catalinas flying together was pretty cool.

Bumped into (literally) Steve Hinton. Asked him if he'd made any alterations to the P-38 back seat yet.

I'm assuming that (corrections please!) the P-51B is Pete Regina's old a/c. Was wondering if it still sports latter P-51 upper nose cowl?

that should read P-51D upper nose cowl- rayther than a stock B/C.

Hi Charlie, great to see you here at WIX. The P-51B pictured is indeed Mr. Regina's old mount. I have no idea if it still has the D model upper cowl but I do know that it recently emerged from a multi-year restoration that supposedly brought the aircraft up to a much more original "B" model standard.

Mudge, I think Ed Shipley was the other pilot in the two ship Mustang routine.

It's just been through a very long and detailed restoration. My guess is that they corrected that oversight, but I may be wrong.

Nice to see the photos Mudge.... but you've got a hell of a lot of dirt on your camera sensor. You might think of cleaning that up, or you'll just have more work in post. Just a thought. Thanks for posting though.

Just an FYI
P-51B/C upper cow has a "bump" just forward of the canted firewall, this was smoothed out on the D. Once appreciated, one can see it in most any original B/C shot that shows the profile. IIRC, P-51D cowl parts/assembly drawing shows changes to formers,BUT not to the latter profile.

You're very welcome... I'm glad I could help. It's a persistent problem, and the only real downside to a digital SLR. I now use two when I'm at a show, one with the long lens, the other with the short one... just so I don't have to change lenses in an uncontrolled environment. There is nothing worse than having to edit a couple hundred photos after a shoot just to get rid of the dust!

When changing lenses on a Digital SLR remember to turn the camera off. The CCD (Charged Couple Device) has power running through it when the battery is on and the static generated will attract all the dust.
