Naval Air Reserve Cougars?

Thu Jul 20, 2006 5:48 pm

Hi all--

Patching up an ancient F9F Cougar model; trying to find out which Naval Air Reserve units operated the sweptwing F9F. I know the unit at NARB Columbus did. Were there any other Cougar-equipped NAR units (the base names of which were shorter than "COLUMBUS" ?)

I think NAS Olathe (Tail code 'K') had them. I vaguely remember seen photos of them in gull gray over white with the orange reserve band....Could be wrong.

Hi Dante--

Thanx much..."OLATHE" is shorter than "COLUMBUS"! This model will be in the dark blue with orange band instead of the later grey/white, which may be incorrect for that unit but as long as that base did have Cougars it's good enough for me. The model is a built-up 50s Revell Cougar that might otherwise have been chucked out...

Cheers

How about Glenview - tail code 7V - same number of letters as Columbus so it should line up OK.
